It seems as though Mark Zuckerberg made the right choice
when he bought out Instagram back in April 2012. Since the purchase, the rate
of usage for Instagram has dramatically increased.
The amount of users was estimated around 200 million, which
almost double the amount when Facebook made the purchase. Instagram has been
catching up with Twitter on mobile usage, and soon it many even surpass it.
Also, Instagram is linked easily with Facebook and Twitter. Anyone who uses
either to post pictures can use Instagram and all of its features like filters
and cropping tools.
Instagram in my opinion was a smart purchase by Facebook. It
helped gather usage on mobile since Twitter dominated that medium since its arrival.
They should start to incorporate more to the application to further expand the
abilities and gain more users. Some ideas could include adding more filters, more
“Photoshop” features and develop a sense of community with easy to discover
like Vine. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffbercovici/2014/03/27/instagram-is-already-bigger-than-twitter-on-smartphones/
Facebook is acquiring companies and startups at an alarming rate. As a company, it is becoming a behemoth. Honestly, I think that Facebook has its sights on the future. While Instagram's usage has been declining, I do not see it dying out anytime soon. I think the same assumption could be made for Facebook as a whole.
ReplyDeleteAny time two major social medias merge it will be profitable. Facebook has always invested smartly and it seems as if Instagram continues that pattern. It is a very popular mobile app that has many easy connections to Facebook, making them both more frequently used and more profitable.
ReplyDeleteIt almost seems like Facebook is attempting to monopolize the social media world. If they continue to buy apps and outlast opponents, this could be a realistic expectation for the future.
Zuckerberg is playing it smart by acquiring companies and startups that he sees as powerful and profitable. If he can create an umbrella of social media applications under Facebook, then Facebook will not fall off. I personally think that Instagram is an awesome app and I see myself using it more than Twitter and Facebook nowadays. Its visual concentration is what makes it strong. People can focus on the pictures and share their experiences without having to write much.
