As of this years third quarter, the time when social networks look at their profit gain, Facebook realized something new! Those annoying, in the way ads that pop up every time you click on the app on your phone are actually helping them!
As of this third quarter, Facebook found out that mobile adds have helped increase their revenue by 49%. This is the highest for a social network has received from mobile ads. Facebook is entirely a free social network which means it has to gain profit from advertisements. Turns out, these advertisements, especially on mobile devices are helping them in the long run.
Facebook stated that users are actively clicking on the mobile ads when they log into their Facebook ad. This to me is surprising. I don't recall ever clicking on a mobile ad on a social network app on my phone because I find the ads quite annoying. I don't like to be scrolling down my Facebook and suddenly an ad pop up based on something that I have no interest in. But, apparently these ads seem to be working for a lot of people and have caused the jump in revenue for Facebook. I understand that they have to get their revenue from advertising, since their a free social network, but most of the time the ads popping up out of nowhere can be annoying. Perhaps if they didn't have the ads pop up and maybe were just located on the side of the app, more people my age wouldn't get annoyed by them. This could certainly help to increase the revenue of mobile ads above 50% since they would be aiming towards people who find the ads a pain.
