Apple iOS7 Update

The much anticipated apple iOS7 update is finally here. I first heard about it in early Summer and remember watching a video about all of the things it had to offer. It officially was released on September 18, 2013 at 12:00 PM. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to update at 12:00 PM. Not only was the upgrade moving slowly (because naturally everyone was trying to update as soon as possible) but some people, like myself, weren't even being shown that the iOS 7 was an option for them. With the constant checking, for all of us it was finally there at some point that evening.

The iOS 7 update offers a more modern, colorful feel with a new design. The apps have also been redesigned and the control center, for example, makes it much easier to access certain settings. The seven main new features of the update include design, search, control center, multitasking, siri, the new apps, video and airdrop. With all of these updates comes both pros and cons.

With regards to design, iOS 7 offers new colors and wallpapers as well as a whole new look to apps and the screen. The pros include fun animations and transitions, the movement of what is going on with the phone on screen and that apps can be hidden in folders. The cons start with some of the new icons being rather unfortunate looking and the old ones would have been better off. Also, folders now take up a large portion of the screen.

The search bar is now in a different spot and you can't swipe to the left to get to it. Instead, you swipe down from the center of the home screen to get to the search bar. This makes the search more organized and there are more search setting options. Unfortunately, the search bar is only accessible from the home screen rather than on any screen being viewed which makes it a bit hard to find.

The control center had a major make over. It is much easier to access with a quick swipe from the bottom of the screen which is also available on the lock screen. This saves a lot of time and also has a built in flashlight which personally, I absolutely love! The downside is that you cannot customize what is available in the control center.

Siri is no longer only female and you can actually change the voice to a male's based on your preference. Not only can you choose the gender of Siri, but Siri is much smarter because it checks more sources and helps with more tasks. The upside is, Siri has no lost his/her snarky attitude which I think I can speak for everyone when I say, we appreciate. As before, Siri doesn't always understand what you say nor does he/she answer your questions correctly.

The dreaded red bubble to signify an app update is no more! Thankfully, the update allows auto-update. The apps are more sleek and less distracting and the camera has even been given new features such as the various color schemes to edit a picture before it's even taken.

It is ensured that not everyone will be pleased with the new update for whatever reason, but for the most part it was a successful update. My thoughts on the update are that I do like it. It's only been one day since I have had it but I like what it has to offer and am excited to discover new things that I currently am not aware of. I do have a few cons in my mind (along with the ones I have already listed). I am overwhelmed with the bright white used for the text messaging. It was confusing for me at first but I know I will adjust (Not that I have a choice). Also, it could just be my device but I find the movements of things to be a bit slow. I feel for an update, they should move much faster, unless it was a part of the update that they planned on purpose.
