The Improved YouTube App

With the new iOS7 update taking over media news lately, the new and improved YouTube app might be overlooked. According to “YouTube goes Internet-less: offline videos available in November” published on September 18, the mobile app update is said to come out in November of 2013 and will be available on Android and all iOS devices.

The app will now allow users to pre-download videos from YouTube and watch them offline. There will still be those annoying ads in each video but I believe this update will be worth it. Now, it will be even easier to play and listen to video anywhere we go.

The amount of video each user can store is yet to be announced but users will be able to store a video that they previously downloaded for up to 48 hours.

Being an avid YouTube user, I think this is a great step forward for YouTube who have been very adamant about not allowing users to directly download content on the website. Although there are websites who break these rules, I think it was smart of YouTube to create their own way to download their content so everything stays on their website.

  1. I'm excited for this Youtube app. It sounds like its a great idea but what about copyright issues? Would we be capable of storing videos on our phones permanently? This will be definitely be interesting to see come November.

  2. I'm too quite excited for this YouTube app. Speaking to Aliyah's comment above, copyright issues will most likely be avoided considering the nature of this app in no different than YouTube itself. Furthermore, again speaking to Aliyah's comment above, we will not be able to store the videos on our phones permanently but rather, we will be able to store them for 48-hours. None-the-less, I feel as though this app is another large leap forward to providing consumers media content the way they want it, when they want it, and thus, allowing advertisers to capitalize on the increased exposure. It's a true win-win in my mind.

  3. This sounds exciting. I think this will definitely be easier then watching a youtube video in bits in pieces, waiting for it to buffer. This new app should be very convenient for Iphone users. Speaking to Rob's comments I too think that this app is another big leap forward for consumer media.
