Love on Instagram?

Love On Instagram Proposal

We have all heard about online dating websites such as Eharmony.com and Match.com, but what about using Instagram as a gateway to finding that special someone?

That's exactly what happened to this couple. Denis and Elizabeth fell in love on Instagram. Elizabeth posted a photo on her Instagram of Crater Lake. Denis liked the photo and made a comment. From there, everything started to fall into place.

The two eventually met in person and it was love at first sight. Just over a year later, Denis decided to propose to Elizabeth, but he couldn't just propose in any old way, he proposed "using" Instagram. He gathered 30 of their Instagram photos that told the story of their relationship. And of course Elizabeth accepted, sounds just like a fairy-tale.

Now when I first heard about this I thought "they must be crazy! How can you fall in love on Instagram?" The same could be said for those who use online dating sites.

Is it possible that Instagram could turn into an online dating site?  I use Instagram almost every day and I, for one, would be really sad if it turns into that. I follow others on Instagram but I don't follow them in hopes that we will end up together. Now I know that that was not the original intention for this couple, but I wouldn't want the whole site to become all about that.

What's your opinion? Do you think that Instagram could become the new gateway to the online dating world?

  1. My friend actually found her current boyfriend off of Instagram and she's crazy for him! It's a bit of a long distance relationship but they seem to make it work! They both have met up when both of their schedules allow it. At first when I heard of it I was very skeptical, but out of all social media network I think this one would be the social network with the least amount of fake profiles. If you are an avid follower of an another person on Instagram, yes they allow you what they want you to see, but most of the time you are seeing their face frequently. No I don't think Instagram will turn into a dating site, but don't be surprised when more people find their significant other through it.

  2. I find it pretty unlikely that Instagram will ever become a gateway to the dating world. This case of these two individuals falling in love on an app like this seems to be pretty rare and doesn't seem like it will become a common trend. Well I might not understand how a relationship like this could work I am glad the couple is doing well!

  3. The thought of this is crazy to me, I guess I'm just not one who would fall in love online. But everyone is different and if they found love on Instagram great for them! Although I really do hope that it doesn't turn into a dating site, because I follow my friends to see what is going on in their life not to see random strangers to find love.

  4. This is crazy! I think the saying "don't date anyone you meet in a bar" applies to this idea, only it's more like "don't marry anyone you meet on Instagram." I couldn't even think of doing this. It is awesome that they found love and "the one," but it's crazy to think the way it happened.

  5. This is a cute story and I am really glad it worked out for this couple! Honestly, I could never do it! But I have a feeling that as social media becomes increasingly more popular, more friendships and relationships will be formed on these sites. With the growth in popularity of social media that we are seeing now I think stories like this will become more and more common, and might even become the norm.

  6. I feel like Instagram is never going to be thought of as a place to go to find the love of your life, like dating websites are. But that being said I think it is neat and a cool story if it does end up happening that way. If instagram began to change in a way where people are ONLY seeking relationships instead of sharing cool pictures then I would probably delete my account. Its cool that people have found each other that way, but I like the origional reason that instagram was created and wouldn't enjoy getting on and seeing romantic pictures 24/7.
It's only a neat and cool story when it happens randomly and is not forced.

  7. I'm gonna be honest- I think if people start trying to find "love" on Instagram, it could get out of hand really quickly. It would take social media stalking to a whole new level! I realize that it worked with this particular couple, but I feel like it could really creep girls out (girls would probably be on the receiving end most of the time) if random men started commenting on their photos in the hope that it would spark a relationship. Regardless, good for this couple! It seems like they're very happy with the way things unfolded.
