Will Twitter Beat Out Storify?

Twitter added another feature to their site! People now have the ability to make custom timelines. People can make timelines around particular events and other users tweets and topics. This new custom timeline from Twitter resembles quantities from another site, Storify.

"Whether you want to collect the best Tweets about a TV show or help people find the latest information about fast-moving real-time situations, custom timelines let you give everyone a place to follow along," said by Brian Ellin, who is the product manager for the Twitter platform.

Twitters can do this by using the Twitter API. People have been able to do this since the users have been able to create custom columns of content. Now however, these columns are now portable. This resembles a site we have used in class called Storify in that the custom timelines will be fully embeddable.

This application for Twitter is not yet available for all users but it is said that it will be over the next few days.

However, Storify still has some advantage over Twitter's custom timelines and that it that Storify's custom timelines can incorporate Facebook and other sites while Twitter's cannot.
There is still a question on which will be used more or become more popular seeing as Twitter is already a more popular site than Storify, especially for younger users.

  1. This is really interesting. I think that in a way Twitter has already beat out Storify because Twitter has its name out there more than Storify does. I've never heard about Storify before taking this class. Most people don't know what Storify is so I feel that Twitter will have a very easy time taking over what Storify does. Storify would have to do a lot of work if the company wants to compete in the "major leagues" with Twitter.

  2. I'm glad you wrote about this new application from Twitter. It is true that Twitter has significantly more active users than Storify, however I truly feel as though the advantages of Storify including incorporating posts from Facebook and other sites will trump this move from Twitter. Whereas Twitter's new application will allow for compiling custom timelines, I feel the ability to pull from all online platforms through Storify allows for the creation of holistic online journalistic story telling.

  4. Even though Twitter has a bigger base of people who are actively using the social network than Storify, I honestly believe that this new storify-esque feature that Twitter is offering will not be used as much. Twitter beats out Storify because there are more active users on it, this new feature has nothing to do with it

  5. I think that Twitter is already beating Storify out with the number of active users it has. I agree with Aliyah that I personally don't think this new feature will be used much by Twitter users, which is great for Storify. I also think that with this feature Storify has an advantage because it can take things from all social media.

  6. I think this is interesting competition! Twitter definitely has more users than Storify does, but ultimately in my opinion, Storify is more unique. The way Storify is laid out and works is a lot more unique than Twitter is all together. The only major concern is that Twitter has so many users that maybe it will pass by Storify.
