Bye, Bye Birdy

Bye, Bye Birdy!

The number one downloaded app for iOS 7 and Android, ‘Flappy BIrd’ is now gone as of Sunday.  For those of you who don’t know, ‘Flappy Bird’ gives players a chance to move a little bird through an up and down obstacle of metal pipes.  The creator, Dong Nguyen, is a Japanese developer who gave game lovers a 22 hour notice before taking it down.  He wrote on his twitter, “I can’t take it anymore” and told Forbes that he created the game to kill a few minutes of time but it quickly became addicting and he thought it was becoming a problem.  I think deleting the app in total was selfish. If he wasn’t happy with it he should have just stopped playing and allowed others to enjoy it.  Nguyen mentioned he won’t sell the game to anyone, but it’s gone forever.

It only took about two to three days to create the app and it was not advertised in anyway. The game was created last May, but didn’t become popular until December.  Spectators are unsure why or how it became so desired in January when it became the top free iPhone app.

Personally, I haven’t gotten addicted to it.  I only play when I’m really bored.  Seeing how I can’t achieve a score higher than a two, it doesn't take long before I become frustrated and quit.  Because I have already downloaded the app before it was deleted, I, along with everyone else who previously downloaded the app too, am still able to keep playing.  Since the deletion of the game, hundreds of iPhones are being sold on eBay  for big bucks.

  2. I don't know if I think it was selfish of him to delete the app. I think that as the creator he had the right to get rid of it if he felt that it was harmful to others. I think it was a good choice to delete the app personally. It seemed to become a big problem among its users.

  3. I completely agree with Jenna on this topic. I have become consumed over the past 3 days, while being bed-ridden, with this simplistic game and have achieved a high score of 70 (not bragging or anything...). I think it was a great idea deleting the app and has stopped future deaths over this game. Thanks to the deleting of this app, my iPhone is now worth upwards to $1000 on eBay, and that's nothing to complain about!
