The new Twitter #music app

In our recent news in the social media society, Twitter is releasing Twitter #music. This is a new service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter. This new service uses Twitter activity, including tweets and interacactions to locate and search for the more popular tracks and the upbringing artists. Twitter #music has developed an app for twitter users to go to the artists profiles that they follow or suggestions of who the Twitter user maybe interested in following and have the access to listen to songs by that artist. The Twitter #music app allows you to tweet the songs right from the app.

The songs on the Twitter music app are now currently coming from three sources: iTunes, Spotify, or Rdio. You will have access to hear previews from iTunes when exploring through the music app. Subscribers to Rdio and Spotify can log into their accounts to enjoy the full tracks that are available in those areas. Twitter says that they will continue to explore and add other music providers.

If you are interested in songs that have been tweeted by either the artists or people that you follow on Twitter, you can type in the hash tag "#NowPlaying" to look up and listen to those songs. Above is a picture of the Twitter #music app. This has a chart of artists that has a list of popular bands that you can click on and its shows you their most popular songs. You have access to follow them right from the chart or tap their Twitter username to go to their profile. As you discover new songs that you would like to share with your followers you can simply tap the the spinning disc in the lower left corner. This opens the song, and allows you to tweet from there using the Tweet icon in the top right corner, as shown below.

Twitter believes that Twitter and Music go great together. This allows people to share and discover new songs and new albums everyday. The most followed accounts on Twitter are musicians, at least half of Twitter users follow at least one musician. Because of this many artists turn to Twitter first to connect with their fans. This is the main reason Twitter wanted to find a way to display songs the Twitter users tweet about. Twitter Music is a great app and its just an easier access point for artists and bands that I admire and listen to and share with my followers.

  1. This sounds like a very cool way to share music with others easily, since everyone is on Twitter. I currently use Spotify and is similar to the idea of following specific artists and sharing files with your friends on Facebook. Although they have to be a Spotify member.
