Hacking Isn't That Bad

Recently, a hacker published a blog on how he was able to hack into Instagram and access users’ private information. The hacker was able to access private users photos and make it possible for others to view the "locked" photos. He did state that he was only able to access these photos via the web page, so anyone who only uses the mobile application was safe from being hacked. The hacker though did something unexpected, he decided to report the bug and allow the parent company of Facebook to investigate it. They analyzed the bug and made sure they understood in completely so it could be fixed and protected from future intrusion into users’ privacy.
I think a bug like this is not the most damaging thing a hacker could do to someone. In Instagram, yeah they can hack into your account and pretty much make it public rather than private, but there isn’t a lot of personal information on an Instagram account. Now for Facebook, that’s a different situation. Facebook seems to be more of a personal account where there are some things that are more private and important than that on Instagram. People on Facebook today seem to be more middle aged and share things like travel plans, favorite places to spend time, phone numbers, email, etc. a hacker can do a lot more with all of that information rather than just your email and possibly your cell phone number if you used that in your account information. I think it is great that a hacker would report how he was able to hack into something and turn it over to a “White Hat Program” so that they can prevent future hackers from causing real damage to someone’s personal accounts
