Online Dating Has Turned (Very) Personal

The online dating world is often considered somewhat of a joke, but due to the continued presence and creation of new sites, it apparently does have a substantial market.  With seemingly everybody looking for the perfect match, why not be as sure as possible that you aren't wasting time?

Previously, dating- both online and in person- has been pretty hit or miss.  Often times the attraction just isn't there.  How can you skip over this discouragement?  Send in a DNA sample!

According to CNet.com, there's a new online dating feature that allows singles looking for love to send cheek swabs in and get them analyzed.  The site then sets you up with individuals you're most likely to be physically attracted to based on genetic factors.

This concept seems a tad overbearing.  On top of sending in your DNA to a for-profit, not necessarily reliable company, you're practically mail-ordering a lover.
Finding love online made easier?  Or creepier?
This potentially could result in match after match, or it could be handing the most personal of information to a third party.  For around $450 dollars, surely some people will find out if it's worth the money to discover something that could be found out naturally by meeting up for a few dates.

Approaching dating like this is a completely new dimension to this type of social media.  Are we being ushered into a new era of genetically-verified technology?  The iPhone 5s already has a fingerprint capability, perhaps in the future starter kits will come with a cheek swab.

  1. And people worry about having their identity stolen via there SSN or bank accounts? This is truly creepy, as you pointed out in the caption to the graphic
