Heard First On Twitter: NFL Player Traded

Earlier this week on Tuesday March 11th, was a crazy date for the NFL, the teams, players and fans. This was the start of free agency, this allowed for the NFL teams to go shopping for big time players looking for big time contracts. The coverage on free agency has been on going all week long, about the shocking signings by NFL teams. NFL updates and stories found Twitter has been known to be heard faster than any television or radio station. If you were a player in the NFL,  how would you feel about seeing your name on Twitter about you being traded before even notified by the team?

Darren Sproles who started his career with the San Diego Chargers, but his most recent team he has been playing with since 2011 are the New Orleans Saints. Although Sproles knew he was probably not going to be playing for the Saints anyway. In the article it states no one gave him the news about himself being released from the team, he found out on Twitter displayed in the link. http://mashable.com/2014/03/12/darren-sproles-saints-trade/

If you were in Sproles position, would you feel that information released on Twitter before you knowing it would violate or make disagree? I know for me I would not appreciate the public eye to see information about my future before I even know. I am sure Sproles did not mind that, but his one tweet says, "The stuff you find out on twitter." He is right; news stories, information and other sources of information are found on Twitter faster than any other T.V. station or radio. Allow this may not seem like a huge issue for some people, it is for news stations that tweet. There has been many mistakes in the past where news stations would tweet false information about something that was happening. The news stations have to be careful of what they carry out. I feel this was an interesting article about how much Twitter is taking over.

  1. I follow Adam Schefter from ESPN on Twitter and he was literally tweeting non stop. The NFL dominated Twitter discussions all day Tuesday. This also reminds me of how sad it is to see Buffalo let Jairus Byrd go.

  2. I like the article. If I was Sproles, I'd definitely want to know first before the world knew it. That's disrespectful of the Saints organization to let this happen.
