Shake to Pay

I have never explored all the apps on my iPhone that were programmed in automatically.  Until reading this article on the Starbucks app, I never realized the full potential of these scannable apps.

I now know Apps like Passbook, function to keep your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, and loyalty cards in one place.  Another company that uses a scanning app is Wegmans.  At the register you can either scan the key chain shoppers club or the Wegmans iPhone app shoppers club.

A new feature the Starbucks app has added, is the option of leaving a $0.50, $1 or $2 tip to your order.  The upcoming version will also include a “shake to pay” feature.  It sounds really convenient to just shake your phone and the barcode of your Starbucks card appears.  Although, it looks like I am not alone, as far as utilizing the full potential of my iPhone.  The article noted, “Starbucks says more than 11% of in-store transactions are made with mobile devices, though the company did not say how many of these were made via the Starbucks app.”  Such a low percentage surprises me.  Isn’t the stereotypical Starbucks customer hip and trendy? 2. The "shake to pay" is interesting.
Maybe in the future our phones will have credit cards and debit cards that you can pay with with a shake.
Interesting concept, but security on these features on phones hopefully grows along as well.
