"Spritz" App Allows Users to Read Faster Than Ever

The trend toward digitizing everything is running rampant in 2014, markedly in the entertainment industry.  Access to material has increased, as has reading speed (no more wasting time flipping pages, now it just takes the click of a button).  Now, thanks to the new Spritz app, reading just got even faster.

This new app displays words rapidly on a fixed point, so that you don't have to lose precious moments by reading from left to right across a page.

Is this a step in the right direction? Or is it epitomizing the laziness of this generation?

It seems that we're always trying to come up with new, innovative ways of doing the same things we've done for years.  However, forward movement always comes with a cost.  Although Spritz may allow readers to go through book after book at a rapid pace, they'll sacrifice the level of comprehension and ability to re-read that's currently available.

A nice idea, but I'm not convinced that this app will be of any real importance.

  1. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Of course, it would be very nice if reading wasn't so time consuming but it seems like this is sacrificing a few things in the process. Like you stated, readers can't re-read, level of comprehension is sacrificed, and it adds on to the list of reasons as to why we are allowed to be lazy.

Reading isn't just for the information, it is partially for the experience and the leisurely and relaxing feeling. It seems that the Spritz app is taking that away from the user, but then again it is an app so people who don't want to use it don't have to. Maybe for those who prefer to get information quickly through text, this app will be exponentially beneficial.

Like with any new app, time will tell whether the app is great or just another flop in the technology world.

  2. Overall, I don't think this is a very good idea. This just increases laziness and promotes poor education. I don't think there is any use for this because people have been reading things from left to right for years and it hasn't been a problem. Reading isn't just a burden, but can be a fun activity for some and this app just takes that away.
