Are More Messages Coming to Your Twitter Inbox?

The popular social networking site, Twitter, has made a major announcement. Now, whenever you receive a direct message, it may not be from someone who follows you. Twitter will now allow people, companies, groups, etc., to send messages to those who they do not follow. The company announced this newest update while awaiting the allowance of its users to buy stock in the site.

Some people are somewhat annoyed with this change. According to an article on CNN.com, a commenter on the tech site, The Verge, said "Should be renamed 'Check this box if you would like 99% more spam!'” Twitter is currently working on testing this new tool and discussing the potential upsides and downsides. Another possible use of this would be to distribute news. Along with being able to send and receive messages, you would now be able to receive news updates sent out by the media.

I don’t really think it is all that necessary to implement this new idea. It’s basically just another form of email. I get enough mail from companies on a daily basis, and this would act the same way. However, I think it would be good to have as an additional news resource. If there were something that I missed while scrolling through my feed, that hit in my mailbox would be helpful to know what is happening.
