The Twitter Change

As of Tuesday, November 29, Twitter has changed its format so pictures and video show up on a person’s timeline automatically. Changes can be seen immediately online and on any updated iOS and Android Twitter apps.
This new change may not seem like a big deal but there are already several concerns popping up through social networks according to "Twitter Now Fills Your Feed With Photos."

One of the most common ideas about having pictures and video show up on one’s news feed is that it makes Twitter look even more like Facebook. Twitter is supposed to be more about the text people produce and less about visuals. Having pictures and video readily visible may distract readers from the actual tweets that prompt the visuals.

Another concern people have is regarding their privacy. Some people have ‘talked’ about what happens when they are scrolling through their timeline and inappropriate pictures show up at the wrong time.

However, there are people who enjoy this new change. It shows people that Twitter is trying to make their platform more ‘user friendly’ and less complicated. There are no more extra buttons to press to view photos or videos.

For the most part, I like the new Twitter change. There are several potential concerns I have but I guess we’ll have to wait and see where Twitter goes from here.

  1. Twitter is doing something similar for soccer fans here in the US. Twitter users here in the United States will be able to view soccer highlights from games in the European Champions League which takes place obviously in Europe. I would not be surprised to see a similar action with the NFL due to the significant fan base in the UK. It certainly is a positive for sports fans, but only time will tell if it will be useful for other Twitter users as well.

  2. I really don't know how I feel about the new Twitter update. It's an easier way to view media instead of having to wait for it to load. However, it does already seem to be clogging up my timeline. I think I was happier before when I could view the media only if I wanted to.

  3. I'm not really happy with it. I think it will clutter the timeline, and wish there were an option to turn it off.

  4. I'm not thrilled with the new update! It's going to take some time to get use to for sure, then it will change again. I don't care to see every picture someone posts, especially if you follow famous people who retweet images all the time, it just clutters my news feed and makes it harder for me to see the content im actually interested in. It will be interesting to see where Twitter goes from here.
