Twitter may be the last Social Media to go public?

Twitter may be the last Social Media to go public?

As we all know, Twitter is going public in the near future. What the real question is, is will this be the last Social Media to go public for the next couple of years, if not more?

This article on Mashable explains that since 2004 there have been 3 great Social Media sites that have gone public, consisting of LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google. Twitter is the 4th site to go public and Charlene Li, Founder of the Altimeter Group, stated "This is the last of the big four, we are not going to see one like this again."

Although it seems like there are some other booming social media startups out there, like SnapChat and Pinterest, they are only a quarter of the value of Twitter. This means that if they want to go public their time won't come for a while into the future, and that is only if the aps don't get "too old" for people to be interested in later on.

My opinion on Twitter being the last Social Media to go public is a little indifferent. I believe that it would be too much for another Social Media site to go public right now or anytime soon, as people are just getting used to Twitter. Also there is not much more people could do right now to make a better site than the 4 that are public already. Each of the four have just about everything you could think of mixed in with their sites. You can share videos, pictures, opinions, professional information, keep in touch with family and friends and even follow celebrities.
On the other hand, SnapChat and Pinterest are great aps that hopefully can go publicly someday, but it wouldn't surprise me if by the time they were able to and began making revenue, they couldn't due to a popularity decrease and other new interest's popping up.
Although I am fairly confident that there isn't much else that could be done in the subject of another Social Media site as of right now, you never do know what people are creating and thinking and maybe something awesome and completely new will appear sooner than we think! I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
