It seems like almost everyone these days has become a part
of the Instagram revolution. Our generation loves using the app to document every
aspect of our life through a retro lens. Myself and other Instagram lovers
alike are excited to hear about a new creation that brings the app to life. The
physical Instagram camera, as it’s becoming known as, is slowly becoming a
reality as it’s intended to come out within the first quarter of 2014.
Polaroid recently picked up the new camera creation and will
release it as 'Polaroid Socialmatic Camera'. The concept and design emulates the
style of the Instagram app we all see on our phones. It will be a flat touchscreen
camera, with up to 16GB of storage, and WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities which
will allow users to instantly share their photos.
What makes this creation truly exciting is the built-in
printer that can instantly print your favorite memories. You no longer have to
use your phone to use the app or send your Instagram pictures somewhere to get
them printed. They print directly out of the camera.
Not cool enough? The photos will be able to print codes on
the back of each photo that will direct people to the photographers Instagram
account when scanned. This allows a new type of social interaction as it is no
longer necessary to view a particular Instagram account before accessing the photos.
Items that may be purchased include camera bags, lenses,
filters, as well as photo stock that even have an adhesive strip on the back to
peel off and post on objects. The only potential pitfalls of this creation
would be the price and size of the camera itself. The camera is a little larger
than I would like but for what it can do, I think it’s manageable. As for the
price – let’s hope that’s manageable as well.
Although the ‘Polaroid Socialmatic Camera’ is still in the
early stages of development and production, I cannot wait to try this innovative and stylish creation.

This is a great find, Janina. Talk about back to the future! Polaroid was the original instant camera, producing film images in a few minutes rather than having to send them off for days or weeks to have them processed and printed. So it's appropriate Polaroid should be the ones introducing this.
ReplyDeleteWow Janina! This is a great topic. I had never even heard of this new Polaroid camera. This is my first exposure to the product and the first time I have learned about it. They touched on all the points with this product with the built in printer, number of gigabytes, and Bluetooth and Wifi capabilities. I can't wait to see the camera for myself!
ReplyDeleteVery cool post! I’m very interested to see how well they will do in the market when it comes out in 2014. I could see the cameras doing extremely well but also being a big flop. I can’t wait to find out what happens!
ReplyDeleteWow, to reiterate Dr. Rosenberry, Sean and Sean: WOW, great find, Janina! At first, I thought there was no way this camera was actually real. However, since you chose to include a hyperlink to the main article, I believe it! This is an absolutely brilliant invention from Instagram and Polaroid. I'm extremely interested to get my hands on one of these in real life to see if I would actually ever purchase such an item. It sure is an awesome concept, especially the QR code integration that allows users to follow your work. I wonder how companies could utilize this technology to advertise? Opportunities sure do exist...
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting I can't wait to see what the finish product looks like! I am a faithful user of instagram, so to see this device is really cool and definitely something different.
